August Meditations
Your heroes are more flawed than you realize, Your enemies, more noble.
The things you worry annoy others, are not noticed. The things you think charm, do not.
That amazing thing that happened to you was a mixed blessing and not all it is cracked up to be. That terrible thing that happened to you is not as bad as you think.
The people you think are your closest friends may not be there where, when, and how you need them. The people you write off as mere acquaintances may consider you a soul mate and be happy to help in ways you cannot imagine.
The small gesture you made that you didn’t think was worthy of note, changed someone’s life. The grand gesture you spent months planning was nice but not earth-shattering…and will be forgotten.
Many of your closest held truths that define you and your way of seeing the world are false. You’ll realize that some day about some of them and other fallacies you will take with you to your grave.
Your wisdom would be much greater if you could see yourself with the same critical eye you cast on others. Give advice, then give advice to yourself and follow it. Your love would be much greater if you could see yourself with the same empathetic and admiring eye you cast on others.
So much of what happens in the small, thoughtless moments defines our impact and legacy.
So who are you when you are not thinking?
Is that who you want to be?
What will change it?
